An intimate elopement at the Retreat at Cool Spring

Before 2020, the term “elopement” was used to describe a couple that would secretly run away together to get married. However, the term has quickly shifted away from that meaning and now oftentimes refers to a small destination wedding. Elopements have risen in popularity this year and, in many places (such as The Retreat at Cool Spring) have become a popular means for a couple to get married.

I have honestly enjoyed the shift towards these small weddings where it’s just the couple and perhaps a couple of close friends and family. There is something so special about a couple sharing their vows together in such an intimate way. This stunning elopement at this gorgeous wedding venue was no exception!

The Retreat at Cool Spring was a stunning venue

Rachel and Sean chose to hold their elopement ceremony at the Retreat at Cool Spring in Bluemont, Virginia. Rich in history and located in the heart of Virginia’s wine country, the Retreat at Cool Spring was built in 1799 and overlooks the Shenandoah River. From the spiral staircase to the french windows to the grand foyer, everything about the venue shouted beauty and elegance. The Retreat at Cool Spring was the perfect place for an intimate elopement ceremony.

A special and romantic first look

The day was unbelievably romantic and it was an absolute honor to capture Rachel and Sean’s love on camera. Rachel was magnificent. She wore a whimsical, flowing, off-the-shoulder dress; her long, dark curls were pinned to the side and fastened with flowers.

Her “something blue” was a pair of pointed-toe flats with a bow on them, which was just the perfect finishing touch to her wedding day ensemble. When Sean turned around to see her during their first look, he was clearly taken aback by her beauty. It was such a special moment.

An elopement to remember

The ceremony consisted of the couple, myself, and the wedding officiant. There was nothing else to focus on but Rachel and Sean and they were an absolute vision.

They chose to read their own wedding vows and there wouldn’t have been a dry eye in the crowd if there was one. The love and laughter they shared throughout the day was undeniable. They were so in love and just delighted to be together on their special day, regardless of what it looked like.

It was such a special wedding day at The Retreat at Cool Spring and my best wishes go out to this beautiful couple and their future together!
